Native of Holland. Also called “viper’s bugloss and blueweed”. Forms a leaf rosette in the 1st year and the flower stems only in the 2nd year. The pure blue flowers of about 2 cm appear on a long spike and bloom for a long time and exuberantly. Attracts many bees, bumblebees and butterflies. In the Netherlands, this plant is mainly found in the calcareous dunes, in warm, slightly fertilized soil.
