A striking, evergreen perennial. In our climate, however, it is not totally winter hardy, so cover in winter. Its sparse growth and the masses of dark purple flowers make it ideal for use in bouquets and as background plant. The flowers look like flat heads on profusely branching stems and have a striking phlox fragrance. The flower stalks are leafless.
