Wild Carrot
Daucus carota is often seen on roadsides. This biennial plant has umbel flowers that resemble a bird’s nest, which is also one of its common names. The carrot-scented flowers are edible and attract a variety of birds and insects. Sow directly at the intended location, as they do not like to be transplanted.
The plant only forms a root system in the first year and blooms from June into October in the second year. Wild carrot needs a cold period to bloom.
Essential flowers for the flora & fauna in our environment.
