Viper’s Bugloss Viper’s Bugloss, does well in calcareous dunes and in warm, lightly fertilised sandy soils. The petals in the bud are pinkish red. After opening, the flowers turn from purple to pure blue. The flowers are edible and taste like cucumber. The stem is prickly, and the leaves are hairy. Long stamens emerge from the calyxes, and the top of the flower style resembles the split tongue of a snake, giving the plant a peculiar hairy appearance. Essential flowers for the flora & fauna in our environment.
